The China and Hong Kong market together is the 3rd largest importer of Canadian beef with 30,820 tonnes and ranked 2nd in value with CAD $272,182,000 in 2018.

With 3400 exhibitors and over 110,000 visitors, SIAL China is the third largest tradeshow in the world. Canada Beef International Institute (CBII) exhibited at SIAL China which showcased Canadian beef products from a number of Canadian beef suppliers.

Canadian Beef Seminar with PMI Guangzhou, April 21
CBII China partnered with food wholesaler Parker-Migliorini International (PMI) Guangzhou to present a Canadian Beef seminar in Guangzhou. More than 50 people attended the event including PMI's VIP clients from Southern China's foodservice industry as well the PMI sales and marketing team. The seminar educated attendees about the Canadian beef advantage and the benefits of the Canadian beef brand including a cooking demonstration and sampling.

Canadian Beef demonstration, HOFEX Hong Kong, May 7 - 9
At Hong Kong HOFEX, one of the largest food and hospitality tradeshows in Hong Kong, CBII China partnered with Million Far East, one of our key partners, to showcase the Canadian beef advantage through branded communication materials and a cooking demonstration.

"East Meats West" Canadian Beef Culinary Innovation Workshop, Shanghai, May
CBII China organized a culinary innovation workshop "East Meats West" at the Canadian Consul General's official residence in Shanghai. Alongside the Chinese menu designed by master chef Qian Yibin, executive chef Jeremy Austin of J Prime Steak and Seafood Restaurant designed the western menu. Canadian beef was featured in four recipes, with food costs and profit margins provided. The workshop highlighted Canadian beef in both Western and Chinese cuisine with the goal of increasing retail and foodservice sales of a wide range of beef cuts.

CBII China partnered with J Prime Steak and Seafood Restaurant to promote a Canadian Beef Festival featuring featuring grain-fed Canadian Beef.

Canadian Beef Promotion in He Ma Xian Sheng, Across China, June 20-30
CBII China partnered with the Canadian government to promote Canadian beef via He Ma Xian Sheng, Alibaba's newest brick & mortar/online shopping concept. Through its mobile app and in its 155 stores in major Chinese cities, Canadian beef was highlighted at the grand opening. Canadian beef cooking shows were arranged in 11 key cities, increasing sales 48% over the non-promotion period.

CBII partnered with Dairy Land, a major importer and distributor of Canadian beef, to place a Canadian beef image on Dairy Land's trucks in Macau. This is a long-term initiative to bring Canadian beef to local suppliers and consumers. In 2018, Dairy Land purchased $454,545 USD of Canadian beef products.

Canadian Beef Promotion, Yata Supermarket, Hong Kong, August 20 - 26
Yata, a Japanese-style supermarket in Hong Kong and long-term supporter of Canadian beef (sales of 2000 - 3000 kg. per month) launched a Canadian Beef Fair that promoted all Canadian beef cuts in eight select Yata stores.

Canadian Beef Festival with Moorigins Steaks, August 17 - October 7
In partnership with Moorigins Steaks, a key CBII partner with 25 locations, the Canadian Beef Steak Festival took place in Chongqing. The promotion was launched at a special event with the Consul General and Consul of Canadian Consulate in Chongqing delivering remarks and speaking with media. Seventy per cent of Moorigins' steaks are Canadian origin, and approximately 40,000 steaks were sold over the course of the promotion.

Canada Day events 2019
Canada Day featured major partnership events in China. On June 27 two Canada Day reception events organized by the Canadian consulate took place in Hong Kong and Guangzhou respectively, with a total of 1200 attendees. CBII showcased the Canadian beef advantage at both events to a large number of dignitaries, commercial partners and media. On June 29 CBII partnered with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for an outdoor celebration with 1700 attendees, showcasing the Canadian beef advantage and building brand awareness via cooking demos and tastings.

In 2018, Taiwan was the 7th largest export market with Canadian beef exports to Southeast Asia (including Taiwan) at 7,355 tonnes valued at $42 million.

Food & Hotel in Vietnam (FHV) 2019, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, April 24 - April 26
Taiwan office partnered with Canadian Beef brand partner "TD Food" to co-exhibit in FHV 2019. FHV is the most efficient platform for food and hospitality industry in Vietnam; this year, FHV had attracted 466 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions and 13,000 delegates visiting the exhibition over the 3 days. More than 25 Canadian exhibitors have participated under the Canada Pavilion to showcase variety of quality Canadian agri-food products.

Butcher Training Event Manila

Canadian Beef Butcher Training event - Manila August 5
Canadian Beef International Taiwan/SE Asia office held a Canadian beef butcher training session in Manila for 75 attendees. Participants included representatives from the Hotel and Restaurant Purchasing Managers Association of the Philippines and butchers from some of the country's most prestigious hotels including the Hilton Manila, Marco Polo Ortigas, and Raffles & Fairmont Hotel Makati. Also participating were representatives from well-known international franchisee restaurant chains such as TGIF, Denny's and Hard Rock Cafe; and the Philippine restaurant franchisee The Moment Group.

At this focused event, CBCE Executive Director Mathieu Pare and senior manager Deana Kao presented four select Canadian beef cuts, including Bone-in Rib Eye and Strip Loin, with detailed information about each product's characteristics, usage diversity, and tips on how to minimize waste.

The presentation was the result of a successful visit to Canada by the Philippines Purchasing Association executives for a pasture-to-plate experience.


Beefing Up with Canadian Gastronomy - A Chef's Table Event - August 8
CBI Taiwan/SE Asia hosted a Chef's Table event designed to leverage CBCE and educate the Philippine food and beverage industry and associated stakeholders on the attributes of Canadian beef. Featuring CBCE executive director Mathieu Pare, the 110 key culinary influencers in attendance included representatives from the LBT Chef Association; the APMHRP, (including key procurement personnel from a number of prestigious hotel chains including the Shangri-La Makati and the Holiday Inn); The Bistro Group international restaurant franchisee association; and Filippino restaurant franchisee organization The Moment Group. The media was also well-represented through Philippine's top TV network ABS-CBN and reporters from the Philippine Star and Cook Magazine.

With a focus on celebrating the Canadian Beef brand, the event boasted an innovative menu presented by Chef Mathieu Pare, who showcased Canadian beef's versatility in a six-course dinner. Back to main page
